Cardiovascular disease risk is higher, including hypertension and abnormal cholesterol levels. Because irregular periods mean the uterine lining isn't being shed regularly, the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer rises over time due to prolonged exposure to estrogen without the balance of progesterone.
